For a quick game in the browser with no account, cardgames.io, 247 Hearts, World of Card Games and this site all work. For real players and private tables with friends, World of Card Games, Trickster and Whisthub are strong, and Trickster has the most house-rule settings and player counts. Of the phone apps, Hearts+ has a large online community as well as offline play, while MobilityWare's and AI Factory's apps are built for offline play against the computer. The sites also score the moon differently, which is worth knowing before you sit down.

There are dozens of places to play hearts online. This guide covers the ones that come up most often in searches, and what each is good at: playing the computer, playing real people, playing with friends, house rules, offline play, and how much the game is built around ads and purchases. Every description comes from the site’s own page or its app store listing, read on 26 October 2026. Apps change often, so check the listing before you install. This site’s game is included, described the same way.

How each one scores the moon

The biggest rule difference between hearts games is what happens when someone shoots the moon (takes every heart and the queen of spades). It changes how you play the end of a game. From each game’s own rules page:

GameShooting the moonDoes the queen of spades break hearts?
HeartsMoonThe shooter chooses +26 to the others or −26 from their own score; the other rules are settingsNo (a setting)
World of Card Games+26 to the others, unless that wouldn’t leave the shooter lowest or tied: then −26 from the shooter, chosen automaticallyYes
Trickster+26 to the others unless the shooter would lose, then −26 (its default); +26 only and −26 only are optionsYes, by default (an option)
cardgames.io+26 to the othersNo
Whisthub+26 to the othersNo
247 Hearts+26 to the othersIts articles don’t agree
MobilityWare’s Hearts+26 to the others (“thrown to your opponents”)not stated

The shooting the moon page explains why it matters, with the same hand scored each way.

Browser sites

HeartsMoon (this site)

The game deals at once against three computer players, who wait for you, with no download or account. Quick match seats you with real people, and Play with friends makes a private table with a link to send; computer players fill any empty seats. The house rules cover the moon (the shooter chooses, by default), whether the queen of spades breaks hearts, a game to 100, 75 or 50, ties, the passing cycle, the first trick, the jack of diamonds, and three levels of computer player. It’s free, with ads on the pages and sometimes between games against the computer; there’s nothing to buy. It needs an internet connection.

World of Card Games

Play against bots, join a table with other people, or create a private table and invite friends and family. It needs no download or registration. Tables can use “tournament rules” (no hold hand) or “first-trick hearts” (a player with no clubs may throw a heart on the first trick). Its page says 11.2 million games of hearts had been played there by October 2026, with an average game of 24 minutes, and that human players win 27% of their finished games.

cardgames.io

A quick game against three computer players, with a multiplayer lobby for playing real people (it needs cookies enabled). Options include game speed and a dark theme. It shows ads. Its rules page explains its choice on the queen of spades: she doesn’t break hearts.

Trickster Cards

Trickster has the most settings of any site here: the queen of spades at +13 or not, the jack of diamonds at −10 or −5, the moon rules above, and many more. It plays with 3, 4, 5 or 6 players, or teams of two against two or three against three, and has free video chat for playing with friends face to face, leaderboards and daily challenges. It’s free, with an ad-free option.

PlayOK

A large site of live games with rooms, rankings, detailed stats, player profiles and game records. Its hearts tables have settings for the game target (such as 75) and the jack of diamonds at −10, and they’re played on a chess-style clock. You can play as a guest or sign up free. Its “game rules” link goes to Pagat.

Whisthub

Play with friends, other players or computer opponents: join an open room or host your own. It has rankings and tournaments, and a premium subscription. It plays the American rules: no hearts led until one has been played on another suit, and no points on the first trick.

247 Hearts

A free browser game against the computer, with four difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert) and a long rules guide. Its guide differs from most other sources on a few rules, such as passing to the right on the first hand.

VIP Hearts

A multiplayer game that runs in the browser or as an app, with the same account on a phone, a computer or a smart TV, and weekly tournaments and rankings.

Let’s Play Hearts

Play hearts against other people, on the website or in its app: enter a name, join the chat lobby and wait to be matched. It has a leaderboard.

Hardwood Hearts

Free, on Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone and iPad, Amazon devices and Xbox. Classic and partnership hearts, alone or online with people from around the world, with 3D card effects, achievements and leaderboards. It says every game mode is free and its paid extras are cosmetic only.

What happened to Pogo Hearts and the Windows game?

Pogo (Electronic Arts) used to offer hearts, with table options for most of the house rules on our house rules page. Its hearts page now redirects to its list of card games.

The Windows game came with many versions of Windows; Microsoft’s help pages for Windows Vista and Windows 7 describe it. Its rules were the standard ones, with every moon adding 26 to the other players. Playing like the Windows game shows how to set that up here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best free online hearts game?

It depends what you want. For a fast game against the computer in the browser, cardgames.io, 247 Hearts and this site need no download or account. For real people and private tables with friends, World of Card Games, Trickster and Whisthub are the strongest browser sites. On a phone, Hearts+ combines online play with offline games against the computer.

Can I play hearts online with real people?

Yes. World of Card Games, Trickster, PlayOK, Whisthub, VIP Hearts and Let's Play Hearts all match you with real players in the browser, and Hearts+ and Hardwood Hearts do it in apps. This site's game has Quick match for real people and a friends link for private tables.

Can I play hearts offline?

Yes, with an app. Hearts+, MobilityWare's Hearts and AI Factory's Hearts all describe offline play against computer players. Browser games, including this one, need an internet connection.

Is there a classic hearts game like the one on Windows?

Most of these play the same rules as the old Windows game: pass three, two of clubs leads, no points on the first trick, game to 100. The difference to watch is the moon: the Windows game always added 26 to the other players. On this site you can set the moon to work that way under House rules.
